Description

Join this self-paced online learning module to explore Cross-Pavement Solutions (XPS) for electric vehicle (EV) charging, and the critical role they play in enabling equitable access to charging for residents without off-street parking.

The module is designed to take approximately 3–4 hours to complete and can either be completed in one sitting or accessed flexibly to suit your schedule.

As EV adoption accelerates, ensuring fair and practical access to charging infrastructure is becoming increasingly important. Cross-pavement solutions provide a range of approaches to safely and legally connect homes to on-street chargepoints, helping to remove one of the key barriers to EV uptake. In this course, you will explore how these solutions work in practice, and what is required to design and deliver them successfully.

Over this module you will:

  • Understand the role of cross-pavement solutions in supporting EV uptake and overcoming barriers for households without off-street parking

  • Explore the different types of XPS technologies and how to select the most suitable option for different contexts

  • Examine how schemes are designed, delivered, and managed, including legal, financial, and operational considerations

This self-paced online module will help you build the knowledge and confidence needed to assess, plan, and implement cross-pavement solutions as part of a wider EV infrastructure strategy.

This micro-learning course forms part of our Foundation: Future Transport Fundamentals collection, providing practical, accessible training on the core topics underpinning transport decarbonisation.

Prerequisites

This course requires learners to have a reasonable understanding of Electric Vehicle Infrastructure. If this is not the case, it is recommended that learners complete the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure module first.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much background knowledge do I need to do this course?

This is an introductory course, and therefore we do not expect people to have much experience in transport technologies. However we will be covering some challenging technical concepts, so it is important that learners have some STEM capabilities or experience.

  • What languages can the course be delivered in?

We currently only deliver courses in English. However, if there is a specific language you would like the course delivered in then please contact us so that we can discuss and decide if suitable language skills are available in the team.
